ART

The Gothic high altar, pulpit, lectern, and font were commissioned by Pastor Mueller for the twentieth anniversary celebration in June of 1914. The crucifixion sculpture was made by the famous Mayer's Art Manufacturers in Muenchen, Germany and depicts the Roman centurion, Jesus, Mary, John, and Mary Magdalene. Funds were raised by the Women's group and Luther League.

The free-standing altar was commissioned by Pastor Walloch for the one hundred fifteenth anniversary celebration in June of 2009. It was paid for by an anonymous donor and built by Bill and Jeremy Matejcek and member Brian Brinegar of Giddings and consecrated by the Bishop.

The round Ascension stained glass from 2005 is a Pratho family memorial that depicts Jesus ascending into heaven as recorded at the end of Matthew's gospel: "Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

"These images of the winged man, the lion, the ox, and the eagle are first cited in the book of Ezekiel (1:5-11)...In Revelation (4:6b-8), the Christian visionary John reuses these same images. Irenaeus likens these four beings to the four evangelists. Because Matthew begins with the human genealogy of Jesus, Matthew is the winged man. Because Mark 1:2 refers to Isaiah's prophecy that Christ comes with prophetic power, the lion signifies Mark. Because Luke commences with the priest Zechariah, the ox, an animal often sacrificed, represents Luke. The eagle depicts John, who soars on high on the wings of the Spirit."

The Revelation stained glass assures that the time is coming when the trumpets will sound and the gates will fling open and there will be no night because the Lord's Name and Spirit (dove) will be above all and those for whom Jesus died (crosses) will be welcomed by Jesus (the bright morning star).

The Helen Hannes Memorial Pipe Organ was a gift to Martin Luther Lutheran Church from Mr. Emmett Hannes in memory of his wife. Mrs. Hannes was Organist, Youth and Children's Choir Director at MLLC for over 40 years. The organ, originally built in 1887 by Carl Barckhoff, was found in New York, and installed by Frels' Pipe Organs of Victoria. The Frels' Organ Company enlarged the organ by adding 2 ranks of pipes to the swell chest enabling the swell to have a small reed stop, and a celeste. The swell division now has a beautiful set of 8í Strings, recycled from an organ built by the Austin Organ Company, and an 8í Trumpet recycled from an organ built by the Moller organ company. The great division's string, an 8í Duciana, was replaced with a 2í Fifteenth. After the additions, the organ is now a 2-manual and pedal, 10-rank tracker instrument. The Victorian case of American oak features hand-stenciled painted faÁade pipes. A Service of Dedication for the organ was held on Sunday morning December 24, 2006. On Sunday April 29, 2007 the organ was heard in a Dedicatory Recital presented by Mr. Jeffrey Arnold, then Music Director and Organist and Martin Luther.
